What if God is more about relationship than rules?

1 Samuel 16:7 (NIV)

“Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

There’s no denying that there are laws and commandments in Christianity.

But God is also fair, just, and loving—and more than anything, He wants a relationship with us as His children.

Growing up, many of us were shown a version of God that felt strict… almost harsh. Like one mistake could cost everything. Like He was just waiting for us to get it wrong.

But that’s not the full picture.

We sometimes forget that we have a loving God—one who values us more than we even understand. And somewhere along the way, that truth can get lost.

Yes, following God involves obedience. But it’s not just about rules—it’s about relationship.

As mentioned in a previous post, being a Christian isn’t easy. Developing a relationship with God and experiencing real change doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time. It’s a journey.

So instead of only talking about how “strict” God is, maybe we should talk more about His undeniable love.

At the end of the day, there is room at the cross for everyone. Salvation is personal.

We build our relationship with God through prayer, reading the Bible, and even through simple acts of kindness.

But let’s be honest—God looks at the heart.

What seems genuine on the outside can sometimes be done for the wrong reasons. Not everything is as real as it looks.

So don’t be prideful—be genuine.

Seek Him. He loves you.

The past is the past, and it can’t be changed. But you do have a say in what comes next.

Following the rules matters—but we have to ask ourselves… are we doing it for God, or for show?

Because God doesn’t just care about what we do.

He cares about why we do it.

And maybe that’s where real faith begins—not in perfection, but in a genuine relationship with Him.
